Making Farali Potato and Peanut Bhaji is super simple but delicious and flavorful! If you have preboiled potatoes, this Sabji comes together in less than 10 minutes.
What is Farali Food?
During fasting, we can eat only certain types of food. So, Farali food is basically food that is permissible during fasting days. Potatoes are one of those food items that we can consume on fasting days. However, we must use only certain elements that are permissible for fasting to make the Farali Aloo Sabji.
Easy and Quick Farali Aloo Sabji
The Hindu calendar is full of festivals, and there are certain days and months when Hindus observe the fast. During fasting days, we are allowed to consume only certain food groups.
Potatoes are one of those ingredients which are consumed widely during fasting days. There are several Farali recipes that are made with potatoes.
This Aloo Sabji is also suitable for fasting and hence called Farali Aloo Sabji or Vrat Ke Aloo. It is also called Sukhi Bhaji or Farali Sukhi Bhaji, and in this recipe, boiled potatoes are stir-fried, seasoned with spices, and then topped with roasted peanuts.
I have used cumin seeds in this recipe, but skip them if you do not consume them during fastings. Roasted peanuts add a pleasant crunch and deliciousness to the Farali Aloo Sabji, and I highly recommend not to skip them.
The recipe also works for a no-onion, no-garlic diet. So do not keep this dish for fasting; it can be prepared any day and served with Puri or Roti.

Ingredients
- Potatoes: I have used yellow-fleshed potatoes, but you can also use white potatoes. The best way to boil potatoes is to cut them in halves with the skin on. Then, pressure cook them and peel off the skin once they are cool enough to handle. Cut them into large cubes, and they are ready to use for the recipe.
- Cumin Seeds: Cumin seeds enhance the flavor of Sukhi Bhaji, but they should be skipped if you do not consume them on fasting days.
- Curry Leaves: They add delicious flavor to the dish. Curry leaves are easily available in Indian grocery stores. You can also freeze them for a longer period.
- Green Chili and Ginger Paste: You can adjust the spices according to your taste.
- Salt: Rock salt, also known as Sendha Namak or pink salt, is used for fasting dishes.
- Peanuts: Use red or pink roasted peanuts, also known as Moongfali and Singdana. Because of the use of peanuts, this dish is also called Farali Potato and Peanut Bhaji. For the recipe, use roughly crushed peanuts.
- Lemon Juice: Squeeze lemon juice to your taste.
- Sugar: Adding sugar makes this Farali Aloo Sabji more flavorful and delicious.
- Coriander Leaves: Use finely chopped fresh coriander leaves; I highly recommend not skipping them.
How To Make Farali Aloo Sabji
- Heat oil in a pan or Kadai and add cumin seeds.
- Allow cumin seeds to sizzle.
- Instead of oil, you can also use ghee.
- Add curry leaves, green chili, and ginger paste.
- Mix well and saute for a few seconds.
- Then, add boiled potatoes and mix everything well.
- Cook the potatoes on medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 5-6 minutes.
- Add salt to taste, roasted and coarsely crushed peanuts, and sugar.
- Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes on low-medium heat.
- Adding sugar is optional, and you can skip it.
- Finally, add chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice.
- Stir well and turn off the heat.
- Transfer the Sabji to a serving bowl and serve hot.
