Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup (75g) cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup (55g) icing sugar (or add to taste)
  • ¾ cup (180ml) whipping cream (heavy cream)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 50 g Oreos finely chopped or crushed (see notes)

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, using a hand-held or stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat cream cheese and icing sugar on medium speed for about two minutes or until smooth and lump-free. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl.
  • Add heavy cream and vanilla and mix on low speed for 30 seconds. Then, increase the speed to high and continue beating for 1-2 minutes or until thick and stiff peaks form.
  • Fold in the chopped Oreos with a spatula until fully incorporated. If you are using this frosting to pipe on cupcakes or decorating the cakes, add crushed Oreos.
  • Use the Oreo whipped cream frosting immediately or store it in the fridge for up to two days.

Notes

  1. Cream Cheese: Cream cheese should be softened to room temperature before you start making the frosting. Use the original block of cream cheese and not the spread.
  2. Heavy or Whipping Cream: Whipping cream should be at least 35% fat. Low-fat cream will not work for this recipe. Use refrigerated cold cream to achieve firm and stiff peaks. If you are working in a warm kitchen, I suggest chilling the bowl and whisk attachment for the best results.
  3. Icing Sugar: The frosting also contains cookies, so we do not need to add too much sugar. However, go with your preference and add more or less sugar to taste.
  4. Oreo Cookies: You can use any flavor of Oreo cookies for this frosting.
  5. Making The Frosting For Piping: If you want to use frosting to pipe the cupcakes or decorate the cakes, add crushed Oreos. If you add finely chopped Oreos, use the large tips for the decorating and frosting.
  6. Quantity: This recipe yields approximately 3 cups of whipped cream frosting, enough to frost an 8-inch or 9-inch single-layer cake or 8-10 cupcakes. However, you can easily double the recipe to frost the layered cake or 9x13-inch sheet cake.
