Ingredients

  • cups grapes, cut in half (I used a mix of red and green)
  • 1 cup grape or cherry tomatoes, cut in half
  • 2 teaspoon ground roasted cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • 2 tablespoon finely chopped cilantro
  • Lemon juice to taste

Instructions

  • Cut the grapes and tomatoes in halves. If you prefer smaller bites, cut into four pieces.
  • Add the chopped grapes and tomatoes to a mixing bowl. Add ground cumin, salt, pepper, chaat masala, and sweetener and toss well.
  • Taste and adjust the seasonings as required. Add chopped cilantro and lemon juice, mix, and serve immediately or refrigerate until serving.

Storing Suggestions

  • This salad is best enjoyed on the day it is prepared, when the grapes and tomatoes are at their freshest.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Before serving, stir well and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Notes

  1. Choose Sweet Grapes: Grape quality significantly affects the final flavor. Use ripe, sweet, and firm grapes for the most delicious salad.
  2. Use Fresh Tomatoes: Choose fresh, ripe tomatoes that are firm yet juicy. Overripe tomatoes can make the salad watery.
  3. Adjust the Seasonings: The sweetness of grapes varies by variety and season. Taste the salad before serving and adjust the lemon juice, salt, or sweetener as needed.
  4. Serve Chilled: This salad tastes especially refreshing when slightly chilled. Refrigerate it for 15-20 minutes before serving on warm days.
  5. Add Herbs Just Before Serving: Fresh cilantro stays vibrant and fresh when added at the last minute.
  6. Make It Ahead: If preparing in advance, combine all ingredients except cilantro and salt. Refrigerate until serving time, then add the cilantro and salt just before serving for the freshest flavor and texture.
