Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoon flour
  • 2 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoon dark or light brown sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 4 tablespoon milk
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoon chocolate chips plus more for topping

Instructions

  • Mix the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, and salt in a medium microwavable mug.
  • Pour in the milk, oil, and vanilla and mix until just combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips. Sprinkle a few more chocolate chips on the top.
  • Place the mug in the microwave and microwave for 60 seconds until it has risen and firm to the touch.
  • If your brownie looks raw after one minute of cooking, continue cooking in 5-second intervals.
  • I cook the brownie for 60 seconds in my microwave. But because your timing may vary, always watch your mug while it is in the microwave.
  • Let the brownie cool for 3-4 minutes, and then serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Serving Suggestions

  • I highly recommend serving this brownie when it is still warm.
  • You can top it with vanilla ice cream.
  • Or, place a dollop of whipped cream on the top and enjoy!
  • For a triple chocolatey treat, you can also drizzle some chocolate sauce over the warm brownie in a mug.
  • Or, drizzle caramel sauce before serving.
  • These are a few suggestions, but you can enjoy this quick brownie as you would prefer the regular brownie.

Notes

  1. Mug: A standard-size mug is fine for this recipe. However, try to use a 10-12oz mug.
  2. Cocoa Powder: I generally use Dutch-processed cocoa powder for most baked goods. However, you can also use natural cocoa powder for this decadent Brownie in a Mug.
  3. Sugar: I like to use dark brown sugar, but you can use granulated white sugar or light brown sugar.
  4. Oil: If you prefer this quick brownie with butter flavor, add melted butter instead of oil.
  5. Chocolate Chips: Do not skip adding chocolate chips. They make the brownie fudgy. However, you can use chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips.
  6. Do Not Overmix: Overmixing will lead to a tough brownie, so do not overmix the ingredients.
  7. Cooking the Brownie: Do not overcook this Brownie in a Mug. Start with 60 seconds, then cook for 10-20 seconds as necessary.
  8. Add-Ins: You can add one of these elements: a tablespoon of walnuts, chopped peanut butter cups, peanut butter chips, or slivered almonds.
