This Brownie in a Mug recipe provides a fudgy, chocolatey, and decadent brownie perfect for a single serving. Making this brownie is quick; it takes only a minute in the microwave!
Mix the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, and salt in a medium microwavable mug.
Pour in the milk, oil, and vanilla and mix until just combined.
Stir in the chocolate chips. Sprinkle a few more chocolate chips on the top.
Place the mug in the microwave and microwave for 60 seconds until it has risen and firm to the touch.
If your brownie looks raw after one minute of cooking, continue cooking in 5-second intervals.
I cook the brownie for 60 seconds in my microwave. But because your timing may vary, always watch your mug while it is in the microwave.
Let the brownie cool for 3-4 minutes, and then serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Serving Suggestions
I highly recommend serving this brownie when it is still warm.
You can top it with vanilla ice cream.
Or, place a dollop of whipped cream on the top and enjoy!
For a triple chocolatey treat, you can also drizzle some chocolate sauce over the warm brownie in a mug.
Or, drizzle caramel sauce before serving.
These are a few suggestions, but you can enjoy this quick brownie as you would prefer the regular brownie.
Notes
Mug: A standard-size mug is fine for this recipe. However, try to use a 10-12oz mug.
Cocoa Powder: I generally use Dutch-processed cocoa powder for most baked goods. However, you can also use natural cocoa powder for this decadent Brownie in a Mug.
Sugar: I like to use dark brown sugar, but you can use granulated white sugar or light brown sugar.
Oil: If you prefer this quick brownie with butter flavor, add melted butter instead of oil.
Chocolate Chips: Do not skip adding chocolate chips. They make the brownie fudgy. However, you can use chocolate chunks instead of chocolate chips.
Do Not Overmix: Overmixing will lead to a tough brownie, so do not overmix the ingredients.
Cooking the Brownie: Do not overcook this Brownie in a Mug. Start with 60 seconds, then cook for 10-20 seconds as necessary.
Add-Ins: You can add one of these elements: a tablespoon of walnuts, chopped peanut butter cups, peanut butter chips, or slivered almonds.
