What is Lassi?
Lassi is a popular and traditional yogurt-based drink, originated from North India. This delicious drink is a blend of yogurt, cold water or ice, and spices. There are two types of lassi, salty and sweet, and sweet lassi most often include fruits.
About Strawberry Lassi
Lass is our family favorite drink, and it is a great accompaniment with some of our Indian meals. When I make sweet lassi, I prefer to add seasonal fruits to give a refreshing twist to this popular drink. Fruits work as a natural sweetener and add fresh fruit punch to the lassi.
Strawberry Lassi is a blend of yogurt and fresh strawberries, and I have added soaked chia seeds to make it more nutritious. This lassi is great for breakfast, or instead of traditional lassi, we can also serve strawberry lassi with some Indian meals.
Strawberry Lassi can be served on hot summer days for the cooling and soothing effect. Instead of store-bought sugary drinks, serve this nutrition-dense lassi to kids; they will love it!
Ingredients
- Strawberries: I will recommend using fresh and ripe strawberries. We can use frozen strawberries, but it will be hard to blend them down. However, if you use frozen strawberries, blend the strawberries first with a little bit of yogurt and then add the rest of the ingredients. Then, blend again until everything is well combined.
- Yogurt: I prefer to use whole milk yogurt to make lassi for a rich and creamy taste. I have used plain Homemade Yogurt, but you can use store-bought yogurt. Because of strawberries, the lassi is not very thick. So for the thicker lassi, use Greek or hung yogurt. Whichever yogurt you use, make sure it is not too sour.
- Chia Seeds: I like to add chia seeds in my smoothies, and I also love to add them in strawberry lassi. They add great nutritional value to the drink and also add some texture. If you do not have chia seeds or if your kids are fussy about it, you can skip the chia seeds. Or add the chia seeds into the blender without soaking them and blend with other ingredients.
- Milk For Soaking Chia Seeds: I have used milk to soak the chia seeds. But you can also use non-dairy milk or even water to soak the chia seeds.
- Sweetener: I have added sugar to make the lassi sweeter, but you can also use other sweeteners of choice. Instead of sugar, we can also use honey, maple syrup, agave, raw sugar, or coconut sugar.
