Creamy and Delicious Mango Milkshake
Mango is in first place on my favorite fruit list. Sadly, it comes during a specific season and for a short time. However, one of the things that I miss terribly in Canada is Indian mangoes; Alphonso and Kesar varieties are my favorite.
We have Indian mangoes available here for a brief period. But they are infrequent and super expensive, and we need to keep an eye on them before they vanish. However, we have Mexican mangoes available most of the time. And now, we have also developed our taste and love for these mangoes.
While we can enjoy mango as it is, there are several other popular ways to consume it. In India, Aamras (mango pulp) is almost a must on the lunch menu. On hot afternoons, people enjoy it with Roti or Puri (fried Indian flatbread).
In the evening, after a light dinner, my mom often made a mango milkshake as a dessert. I also often use mangoes for milkshakes and smoothies. Believe me, this mango milkshake is pure bliss.
Ingredients and Notes
- Mangoes: Choose ripe, sweet, juicy mangoes with few or no fibers. Do not use mangoes that are even a bit sour. Sour mangoes may ruin the milkshake and curdle the milk.
- Milk: For a creamy milkshake, use whole milk. If using low-fat milk, you can replace ¼ cup of milk with cream for richness if you prefer.
- Sugar: If your mangoes are very sweet, you may not need to add sugar. First, blend everything without sugar, then add as much sugar as you require. Instead of sugar, you can also add a natural sweetener of your choice.
How To Make Mango Milkshake
- Rinse, peel, and chop the mangos.
- Add chopped mangoes, milk, sugar, and ice to a blender jar.
- Blend until everything is combined and the consistency is smooth.
- After blending, taste the milkshake and add more sugar if needed.
- Pour the chilled mango milkshake into glasses and serve.
Thicker or Thinner Consistency
For a very thick consistency, add only a cup of milk or do not add ice.
After blending, if you find your milkshake very thick, add more milk for a thinner consistency.
Or replace ¼ to ½ cup of milk with heavy cream for a thicker and creamier consistency.
For an extra-thick mango milkshake, add a couple of scoops of vanilla or mango ice cream.
Topping Suggestions
Top the milkshake with chopped nuts. I have garnished it with chopped pistachios.
You can also add a dollop of whipped cream.
Add a scoop of vanilla or mango ice cream to the serving glasses for the dessert treat.
To make the milkshake extra chilled, add ice into the serving glasses and then pour the milkshake.
Variations
Instead of sugar, add natural sweeteners like honey, agave, or coconut sugar.
For the rich and creamy mango milkshake, replace ¼ to ½ cup of milk with cream.
Add vanilla or mango ice cream with other ingredients to the blender to serve this milkshake as a dessert.
You can also add a scoop of real vanilla or mango ice cream on top.
Make Vegan Mango Milkshake
For a vegan mango milkshake, use non-dairy milk.
My favorite is cashew milk, but you can also add almond or coconut milk.
