I think homemade granola is way better than store-bought granola and other sugary cereals. You can have this granola with little milk or sprinkle it on top of yogurt with fruits. But I love to eat it by the handful as a healthy munching snack.
This homemade granola comes in handy when you are looking for a leisurely breakfast or a snack. Also, it goes wonderfully well on top of your favorite salad. Instead of popcorn, have a bowl of it and munch on it while watching your favorite show!
Once you make the granola at home, you will never go back for the store-bought. Because the recipe is beyond easy, comes together quickly, and tastes great. Also, you can play around with this recipe, add spices and other mix-ins of your choice to make it your favorite granola recipe.
Homemade Granola Ingredients
- Rolled Oats: Large flaked old-fashioned rolled oats keep their shape while baking. Make sure to use the best quality oats for the recipe. Do not use quick oats or steel-cut oat for this granola.
- Nuts: I have used slivered almonds and chopped pecans to make this granola. But feel free to use other nuts of your choice. The other options are walnuts, cashews, whole almonds, and peanuts.
- Seeds: I have added my all-time favorite chia seeds and pumpkin seeds. But you can also add more of them like sunflower seeds.
- Coconut Oil: I have used melted coconut oil for this recipe. But you can also use almond butter or any other healthier oil of your choice.
- Natural Sweetener: I love real maple syrup! But you can also add honey to this granola if you prefer that.
- Dried Fruits: Dried fruits add fruity flavor and chewy texture to the granola. I have added dried cranberries, but other options are dried cherries and raisins.
- Sea Salt: I like to add sea salt to my granola as it lifts the flavors. So I will recommend adding salt to get the most flavorful granola.
Step by Step Directions
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Line a large and rimmed cookie sheet or baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine rolled oats, almonds, pecans, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and sea salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Pour in coconut oil and maple syrup.
- Mix well until everything is well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly in one layer.
- Bake for 25-35 minutes or until granola is crispy and nicely golden brown, stirring halfway. Granola will be further crispier upon cooling.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool completely. If there are larger chunks, break them into smaller pieces.
- Once the granola is thoroughly cooled, then add dried cranberries and mix well.
