About Air Fryer Sweeet Potato Fries
Well, it is not that I have always liked sweet potatoes. Initially, I found it too sweet for my taste. But I knew the nutritional value of sweet potatoes, so I kept trying to make sweet potato recipes with different spices. And I found that if sweet potatoes are paired with the right amount of spices and herbs, they taste super delicious.
Sweet potatoes have many health benefits, and they are highly nutritious. They are rich in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. So it is better to include these root vegetables in our diet.
Also, sweet potatoes come in various sizes and colors, including orange, purple, and white. My personal favorite is orange sweet potatoes. I have already posted Roasted Sweet Potatoes (Indian-Spiced), and now it is time for sweet potato fries.
Initially, I used to make sweet potato fries in the oven, but after using an air fryer, I found this recipe quicker and easier. Also, air fryer sweet fries are perfectly crispy outside with a tender interior, and ready within less than 15 minutes.

- The recipe is vegan and vegetarian.
Ingredients
- Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes are nutritious, high in fiber, and rich in an antioxidant called beta-carotene. They are high in vitamins and minerals. There are various types of sweet potatoes. I have used orange-skinned sweet potatoes, and I will recommend the same. They are moist, sweeter, and creamier. Also, pick firm sweet potatoes and avoid soft and wet potatoes.
- Oil: I have used olive oil, but your favorite cooking oil can work. You can skip oil if you want to make oil-free air fryer sweet potato fries. But they will be dry without oil, so I highly recommend not skipping oil as we do not need much of it.
- Salt: I have used sea salt, but you can also use table salt. And if using table salt, add a little less. Salt is needed as a contrast to elevate the flavors of sweet potatoes.
- Black Pepper: Use freshly ground black pepper for the best flavors.
- Red Chili Powder or Paprika: I have seasoned the fries with red chili powder to make them slightly spicy. But if you do not want to make them spicy, you can use sweet paprika or skip adding any spice.
- Fresh Coriander Leaves: I like sprinkling chopped coriander leaves on top of the fries for flavor. But it is optional; you can skip or garnish the fries with your choice of fresh herbs.
How To Make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries
- Preheat the air fryer to 380°F.
- Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into even sticks about ¼-inch thick.
- Transfer the sweet potato strips to the large mixing bowl.
- Add oil, salt, black pepper, and red chili powder (or paprika) and toss well.
- Place the sweet potato sticks in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
- You may need to cook the fries in two batches.
- For the crispy fries, it is essential to place sweet potatoes in a single layer and not overcrowd them.
- Cook the fries for 12-14 minutes, turning halfway.
- The time may vary based on your air fryer.
- Transfer the sweet potato fries to a serving plate, garnish with cilantro if desired, and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Storing and Reheating Suggestions
- Store the leftover fries in an air-tight container and refrigerate for three days.
- Reheat the fries either in the air fryer or oven.
- Rewarm fries in the air fryer at 380°F for 2-3 minutes or until they are heated through.
- Or reheat in the oven at 400°F until the fries are heated through.
Helpful Tips
- Sweet Potatoes: Choose heavy and firm sweet potatoes and avoid soft and wet ones for the best results.
- Preheat The Air Fryer: I highly recommend preheating your air fryer for the best results. You can preheat the air fryer as per the manual’s instructions or preheat it to 380°F for 5 minutes.
- Cut The Potatoes Evenly: To ensure that sweet potato fries cook evenly and each one gets equally crispy, cut the potatoes into even sticks.
- Spread In A Single Layer: Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Instead, spread the potato sticks in a single layer for even cooking and crispy fries. If you place the fries in the layers in the basket, they will be steamed rather than getting crispy.
- Cook In The Batches: Because we need to spread the fries in a single layer in the basket, we may need to cook the fries in batches. I cooked the fries in two batches, and it will depend on the size of the air fryer basket.
- Turn Around Halfway: Turning around the fries halfway through air frying time is essential for even cooking and crispiness. You can either flip the fries using a tong or shake the basket.
