This Custard Powder Cake is beyond easy and simple to make, but it is super delicious, full of vanilla flavor, and perfect as a tea cake! Moreover, I have added some candied fruits to make the cake more delectable.
The cake is eggless, and vanilla custard powder makes the cake distinct from regular vanilla cake. This buttery Custard Powder Cake is slightly dense but still moist, fluffy, and full of tutti frutti in each bite!
About Custard Powder Cake
The main element of the custard powder cake is vanilla custard powder. Custard powder provides a distinct but delicious flavor and taste to the cake.
However, the cake is more like a tea cake, and hence it is slightly dense. But it has perfect moisture, and the texture is fluffy and tender. So, you can enjoy this cake as it is without any frosting.
When I first made this cake, my husband suggested adding some tutti frutti. So next, I made the cake with tutti frutti and was glad I took his suggestion seriously! Candied fruits go super well with this cake, and the cake is more delicious.
So I am sharing the recipe with tutti frutti, but it is optional, and you can also make the cake without it. Or, if you like, you can add dried fruits or chopped nuts of your choice.
Eggless Custard Powder Cake is buttery and soft, and the recipe is very simple and easy to follow. Like my other cake recipes, this one does not require an electric mixer, and the batter comes together without any fuss.

Ingredients
- All-Purpose Flour: I have used unbleached all-purpose flour for this recipe. Also, ensure to measure the flour correctly and use the kitchen scale if you have one for the best results.
- Baking Powder and Baking Soda: They both are needed as leavening agents for this cake. Make sure not to use expired baking powder and baking soda.
- Salt: It adds a pleasant contrast to the sweetness of the cake.
- Butter: Use unsalted butter and melt it in the microwave or on the stovetop.
- Sugar: This cake is just perfectly sweet, but if you like overly sweet desserts, add a couple of tablespoon of more sugar.
- Milk: Use whole milk for the moist and rich texture of the cake. Also, bring the milk to room temperature before using it for the recipe.
- Custard Powder: I have used vanilla custard powder, which provides beautiful golden-yellow color to the cake. Also, it adds a unique and pleasant taste and flavor to the cake. You can also use mango custard powder if you like to make a mango-flavored cake.
- Vanilla: Use pure vanilla for the best flavor.
- Tutti Frutti (Optional): Adding tutti frutti is optional, but if you have it handy, I will highly recommend adding these candied fruits. Tutti frutti makes the cake more delicious, and kids would love it.

Helpful Tips
- Measuring: Use a kitchen scale if you have one to measure the ingredients for the best results.
- Custard Powder: I have used vanilla custard powder, which provides color and flavor to the cake. However, if you like to make a mango-flavored cake, you can use the same amount of mango custard powder. I will not recommend using plain cornstarch instead of custard powder, as I have not tried the recipe with it.
- Tutti Frutti: It is optional to use tutti frutti, but I highly recommend to use if you have it handy. Instead of tutti fruit, you can add finely chopped dried fruits or nuts of your choice.
- Mixing The Batter: Do not overmix the batter to get a soft and tender cake.
